PLAN YOUR PATH

Preparation, time and schedule

Before you apply

Compare the BSCS with the separate post-baccalaureate program and confirm mathematics placement.

Your complete timeline

The BSCS covers the software engineering process and integrates design across the curriculum, culminating in a capstone project. A separate post-baccalaureate route is available for eligible prior graduates. Ask for a term-by-term plan that includes prerequisites, transfer decisions and application timing.

Plan around the schedule

Allow time for collaborative design and capstone work alongside classroom study in Portland.

Application and selection

Compare the BSCS with the separate post-baccalaureate program and confirm mathematics placement. Check the current first-year or transfer admission requirements and whether the major or practical placement has a separate application.

Questions to take to an advisor

Which capstone products and software-development practices would become part of my portfolio?

  • What is included in the written price, and what would I pay separately?
  • What support is available if my work schedule, disability accommodations or family responsibilities affect attendance?

Published program length is not a personal completion estimate. Transfer credits, prerequisites, selection and course availability can change the timeline.

After the program

A computing degree can build relevant skills, but hiring also depends on projects, technical practice and experience. A concentration alone does not establish readiness for every specialist role.

Cost and outcomes

PROGRAM COST

Published base; complete personal budget still needed

Add program-specific fees, books, tools or supplies, exams, prerequisite study, travel and living expenses to the published base below. Your final cost depends on your course plan and financial aid.

Published tuition or budget base

2026-27 full-time fall/spring tuition is $30,500 per semester for 12 or more credits. Professional tuition adds $160 per BSN nursing credit or $110 per engineering/business or nursing public-health-and-wellness credit. Other fees, books, living costs and summer study are additional, before financial aid.

University of Portland · Computer Science (CIP 11.07) · Bachelor's Degree. Cohort: 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic-year completers; earnings measured in 2022 and 2023.

College Scorecard covers federally aided completers who were working and not enrolled. This related field can combine programs and institutional branches; it is not an exact-program, campus-specific or current starting-pay figure. It is not directly comparable with Census outcomes because the population and dollar year differ.
