PLAN YOUR PATH
Preparation, time and schedule
Before you apply
Review biological science preparation, water safety and aquarium placement requirements.
Your complete timeline
2-year AAS; separate certificate and BS routes. Prior credits, prerequisite placement and course availability can change your personal completion date.
Plan around the schedule
Campus-based; confirm the current timetable. Ask for the actual days, start times and required travel from Newport. Online coursework does not necessarily make laboratories or placements remote.
Application and selection
Use the official Aquarium Science page to review the current entry checklist. Ask whether a separate department application, selection process or cohort start applies before committing to enrollment.
Details checked September 15, 2026. Confirm current requirements with the provider.
Questions to take to an advisor
Which preparation, timetable and complete budget apply to my Aquarium Science plan?
- Which required courses or placements are offered only once per year?
- Can you give me a written estimate covering every required term and practical expense?
- Which employment, transfer or licensing requirements remain after this award?
Published program length is not a personal completion estimate. Transfer credits, prerequisites, selection and course availability can change the timeline.
After the program
Aquarist positions may require additional experience, diving or other specialist preparation. Broad animal-caretaker wages are not aquarium-specific graduate earnings.
Cost and outcomes
Published base; complete personal budget still needed
Add program-specific fees, books, tools or supplies, exams, prerequisite study, travel and living expenses to the published base below. Your final cost depends on your course plan and financial aid.
Published tuition or budget base
2026-27 tuition is $132 per credit. Listed college, student, government and technology fees add $32 per credit ($164 combined). Online courses add $12.50 per credit. Special program and course charges may be additional.

The reviewed related-field and credential records do not provide a usable numeric earnings value in Census PSEO or the one-, four- and five-year measures in the June 2026 College Scorecard release. Suppressed or unavailable values are not zero and do not establish poor outcomes.
