PLAN YOUR PATH

Preparation, time and schedule

Before you apply

Compare the AAS requirements with the shorter AWS entry-level certificate before choosing an award.

Your complete timeline

Clatsop teaches five welding processes and offers an AAS, a one-year certificate and shorter pathway certificates. This profile covers the AAS. Ask for a term-by-term plan that includes prerequisites, transfer decisions and application timing.

Plan around the schedule

Confirm the workshop site, lab timetable and required protective equipment before enrollment.

Application and selection

Compare the AAS requirements with the shorter AWS entry-level certificate before choosing an award. Check the current first-year or transfer admission requirements and whether the major or practical placement has a separate application.

Details checked September 15, 2026. Confirm current requirements with the provider.

Questions to take to an advisor

Which welding processes and practical assessments are included in the AAS, and which certifications are separate?

  • What is included in the written price, and what would I pay separately?
  • What support is available if my work schedule, disability accommodations or family responsibilities affect attendance?

Published program length is not a personal completion estimate. Transfer credits, prerequisites, selection and course availability can change the timeline.

After the program

Employers may require process-specific welding tests. A college award is not a guarantee of every certification, job assignment or journey-level status.
