DECISION GUIDE 03

Explore an apprenticeship with better questions

Understand the work, learning and entry process together.

01

Start with Oregon’s official listings

BOLI’s apprenticeship listings let you explore trades, program requirements, contacts and application openings. A listed program is not necessarily accepting applications today.

02

Ask about the whole route

Check the sponsor’s current minimum qualifications, selection process, paid-work schedule, classroom requirements and progression. Pay, costs and openings vary by program.

03

Build your practical budget

Include transport, tools, clothing and any unpaid time between stages. Ask which costs are covered and which are yours. Do not assume the word apprenticeship means every expense is paid.

04

Keep related routes in view

Pre-apprenticeship, certificates and degrees may offer different preparation. Confirm whether one gives credit, preference or entry into another; do not assume an automatic connection.
